About Art Space

The goal of Art Space is to offer affordable retail space to the arts community. With this new program, Macon Mall is dedicated to presenting quality artists with space to teach, work, perform, and exhibit their arts. Art Space also provides the community with a unique environment where artists, working in a variety of mediums, have studios open to the public. Art enthusiasts now have another great place to peruse and purchase art for their lifestyle.

Art Space will consist of 18 retail spaces in the mall's East Wing. Five spaces have already been leased to area artists. Interested artists should contact the specialty-leasing manager at Macon Mall for additional information.

3/8/10 6:00-8:30 p.m. How to Use Flash with your Camera - This class will include (1) how to use Speedlights on and off the camera (2) understanding when a speedlight will enhance a photo (3) simple accessories that make artificial light better, and (4) using the built in camera flash: advantages and disadvantages

3/9/10 6:00-8:30 pm Adult Digital Photography Class for Point and Shoot Camera Users (compact cameras)
This workshop is for the camera owners of the point and shoot camera. These cameras can do more than you think they can! Learn how to do more than just point and shoot. Bring your camera and manual to class. Topics will cover: camera functions, subject, light, composition.

3/6/10 (Sat.) 10-11:30 a.m. Kids Digital Photography class for point and shoot users (compact camera)
This class is for children 8-12 years old. It is presented in simple terms, so that the student can learn the basic functions of their camera and learn some basic composition tips. It's a fun class and very informative.

3/17, 20, 24 Digital Photography Workshop for DSLR users- This 3 day workshop will combine several classes into one.

DAY ONE: On 3/17 (Wed) from 6-8:30, Michael Williams and Lynne Barta will cover the functions of the camera that will get you off "auto" and into the creative zone of your camera. Subject, light and composition will then be discussed to help you produce those photos that you'll be proud to show off. Bring your camera, tripod and manual (if you have one).

DAY TWO: On 3/20 (Sat.) from 9-11 a.m, students will be putting their new knowledge to use. The class will meet at a designated area to do a photo shoot for hands on practice with their cameras, with instructor guidance during the shoot.

DAY THREE: On 3/24 (Wed.) from 6-8:30, the class will once again meet at Lynne's Gallery for a "critiquing night." Photos from the shoot on Saturday will be gently critiqued, and some easy tips for correcting compositon,lighting, etc. will be offered. This is a fun and rewarding night.

3/20/10 (Sat.) kids time: 11-12 Adults time: 12:30-2:30
Beginner clay class- Learn the pinch, coil, and slab techniques and then use of these techniques to make a project of your choice. This class is open to 6 yr. olds and up. Please specify if you are registering a child or adult for this class. It takes several days for the project to dry, and then it must be fired, so pick up for the project will be March 6th (2wks). (If it gets done sooner, we will notify you). Class size will be limited, so please register as soon as possible.

3/22/10 6:00-8:30 pm Photography Class - Shooting in Manual - Don't be afraid to be in control of your camera. Instructor, Bonnie Gehling, will put you at ease and show you how to be the "master" of your camera. The class is primarily hands on experience with lots of individual attention. Bring your camera, manual, and a tripod to class.

3/23/10 6:00-8:30 p.m. Intermediate Photography Class - Get ready to go to the next step with your photography. This class will include: (1) review of aperture and shutter speed, and when it is best to use these shooting modes (2) how to read a histogram (3) how to use custom white balance (4) metering modes (centerweight, spot, etc) and why we choose to use them (5) AE lock: what is it and when should I use it? (6) exposure compensation and (7 creative tips and tricks.

On Pointe Class Descriptions
On Pointe embraces the development of the dancer from the day of enrollment at 3 or 4 years of age to prepare for further dance instruction. A student progresses at his or her own rate of development and is placed in class accordingly.

Creative Movement: The program is for 3 to 5 year olds (45 minutes)
This is the student's first introduction to the dynamics of music and movement. The course is designed to introduce the young student to the discipline that will be required for study as well as to provide fun activities for learning basic dance elements. During the year opportunities for motor development, movement exploration, creative play.

Pre-Ballet: The program is for 6 to 7 year olds (one hour)
The program introduces the student to the formal ballet class as well as to establish firmly, the acceptable classroom behavior. Fundamental Ballet Technique classical movements, steps, terminology and theory are covered during the year.

Ballet Technique: The program is designed for 8 year olds and up (one hour)
Ballet is a much disciplined form of art. True progress is made very slowly and consists not only of new steps and dances, but also of repetition of the basic exercises, steps and movements to acquire the strength, flexibility, muscle tone and correct body placement needed for ballet.
